The Right Play For Every Hand

🔄 What's Different

Spanish 21 is blackjack's fun cousin. It uses a Spanish deck — a normal 52-card deck with all four 10s removed, leaving 48 cards. (Jacks, Queens, and Kings stay and still count as 10.) Fewer 10s makes the game harder for you — so to make up for it, Spanish 21 gives you a bunch of player-friendly rules and bonus payouts that regular blackjack doesn't have.

🎯 The Goal

Beat the dealer. Get a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. You win if your total is higher, if the dealer busts (goes over 21), or if you reach 21 — a player 21 always wins immediately, the dealer doesn't even get to finish their hand.

Card Values

• Number cards (2–9) are worth their face value. There are no 10s!
• Face cards (J, Q, K) are all worth 10.
• An Ace is worth 1 or 11 — whichever helps you more, automatically.
• Suits (♠♥♦♣) don't matter — except for bonuses (see below).

✋ Your Choices

• Hit — Take another card.
• Stand — Take no more cards. Your turn is over.
• Double Down — Double your bet and get exactly one more card. In Spanish 21 you can double on any number of cards, not just your first two!
• Split — If your two cards match, split them into two hands. Where allowed, you can even re-split and hit split Aces (most blackjack games forbid this).
• Redouble — At some tables you can double again after doubling, up to 3 times — that's 8x your original bet riding on one hand! Not every casino allows this; where it's not offered, you can only double once.
• Surrender — Give up half your bet and end the hand. (Called late surrender because it happens after the dealer checks for blackjack.)
• Double Down Rescue — Spanish 21's safety net! If you double down and don't like your card, you can take back the doubled part of your bet and only forfeit the original. Regular blackjack has nothing like this. Not always available — some casinos don't offer it, so a bad double is just a bad double there.

🙋 Hand Signals: Talking to the Dealer

Every table is watched on camera, so the casino wants your hands to make each decision — not your words. If you say "hit" but signal stand, the signal wins. Learn these five:

Rescue? There's no standard hand signal for double-down rescue — just tell the dealer clearly: "rescue."

🚫 Table Manners: What NOT to Do

✅ Tipping — this isn't a restaurant: tipping is not mandatory or expected. But if you're having a good run and feel like sharing, you're more than welcome to. The classic move is sliding the dealer a chip after a nice win. Some degens go further and bet for the dealer — you place a chip next to your bet (say "for the dealers") and it rides on your hand. If you win, the dealer pockets the winnings; if you lose, it's gone like any other bet. You're literally letting them gamble alongside you, which dealers love — suddenly they're sweating your cards too.

🏟️ Rules That Change By Table

Spanish 21 rules vary by casino — match the Ruleset box above the charts to the table you're playing:

• Decks — Usually dealt from 6 or 8 Spanish (48-card) decks.
• Dealer soft 17 — H17 (dealer hits soft 17) is worse for you; S17 (dealer stands) is better.
• Redouble (Double down cap) — 1x means one double per hand max; 3x means you can double up to three times (8x your bet). Many casinos only allow 1x.
• Surrender & Rescue — These charts assume late surrender and double-down rescue, but neither is guaranteed — always check the felt before you sit down.
• Splitting — These charts assume up to 4 hands with split Aces you can hit, double, and resplit. Many tables are stricter.
• Bonuses — 21 bonuses and the Super Bonus are paid on plain hands only — never after doubling or splitting.

🤖 The Dealer's Rules

Just like blackjack, the dealer gets no choices — they hit until 17 and stand after, except on soft 17 (Ace + 6), where the table decides: H17 hits it, S17 stands. But here's what's better for you: your blackjack beats the dealer's blackjack (in regular blackjack that's just a tie), and any player 21 wins immediately.

🎁 Bonus Payouts

This is the fun part — extra money for special hands:

• 5-card 21 pays 3 to 2
• 6-card 21 pays 2 to 1
• 7-or-more-card 21 pays 3 to 1
• 6-7-8 or 7-7-7: mixed suits 3:2, suited 2:1, spades 3:1
• Super Bonus: suited 7-7-7 against a dealer 7 pays $1,000–$5,000 plus $50 to every other player at the table!

💰 Winning & Payouts

• A two-card 21 (blackjack) always pays 3 to 2 — and beats a dealer blackjack.
• A regular win pays 1 to 1.
• A tie is a push — bet returned.
• Over 21 is a bust — you lose.
